Bed Depth Information & Cubic Yard Coverage

The depth of the mulch is a very important step in figuring out how much mulch you need.

The depth of the mulch does a lot more than just thickening your mulch layer.

(2 in depth is the minimum for all installations)

2in Depth

At a 2 inch depth, you'll get full ground coverage. This layer should last 8 to 12 months*.

(This is the advised depth if you are going to be laying one product on top of a different/existing product.)

3 in Depth

A depth of 3 inches will help retain even more water and keep those pesky weeds at bay long enough for you to refresh with a new layer about 1.5 years to 2 years later*.

4+ in Depth

A depth of 4 inches (or more) can be used to cover roots, filling in playgrounds or heavy trafficked areas, leveling washed out beds so they appear fuller, and much more.

This depth should last about 2-3 years*.

*depending on weather and sun exposure

We can provide you with thicker depth options upon request. It should be noted that your beds must be dug out or deep enough to hold your preferred depth of mulch. Beds that are overflowing or are raised above the ground / barrier level should be dug out and re-assessed for depth.

Cubic Yard Coverage

To measure a bed, take the length and multiply by the width. That is your total square feet. The depth (Height) is going to determine how thick you want the layer of mulch to be. Take your square footage total and divide by 150. This is your total cubic yards needed at 2 in depth. See the above diagram for coverage of various depths.
